Refers to physical, mental, and emotional labour performed in the service of individual and community wellbeing. Care work can also be enacted onto nature through maintaining and caring for the land and its resources (see #callresponse, How Far Afield?). Narrowly defined gendered ideas of care—as a nurturing, and therefore feminine or maternal, endeavour—beg the question: who do care responsibilities fall to? Caring forms of labour also come with ethical demands and social responsibilities, urging us to consider the line between care work as moral duty and care work as contractual agreement. Because the affective nature of care work is devalued amid capitalist structures that prioritize individuality, other immeasurable forms of interdependence (disability, childcare, eldercare, etc.) are often erased (see Take Care).
