Haoyue (Aylin) Zhang
Haoyue (Aylin) Zhang’s I Hide Behind My Back is motivated by an intense paranoia of waiting to affirm self-existence. Informed by mind-body dualism, this series of “self-images” captures how self-consciousness arises from the interaction between body and mind, a relationship typically invisible. Through projecting drawn images onto her body that represent personal dispositions, Zhang makes visible both the duality and interconnectivity of the body and mind. I Hide Behind My Back aims to expose what happens when self-consciousness emerges in our physical world.
Haoyue (Aylin) Zhang was born in Xinjiang, China. Zhang is currently specializing in Art & Art History at the University of Toronto Mississauga and Sheridan College’s joint bachelor program. Through a transdisciplinary and philosophical practice, Zhang explores the pressure of being an Asian woman living through a worldwide crisis.
