Not Yet Collective (NYC) was formed in 2020 by artists Rae RezWell and Ayoka Junaid. RezWell is a Deaf mixed media photographer of Dominican-Canadian descent, who uses a variety of artistic materials and techniques to express her intersectional identity and cultural background. Junaid is an interdisciplinary artist of Jamaican and Nigerian descent who grew up on Ktaqamkuk island in Newfoundland and Labrador. NYC’s artwork has been featured in exhibitions at Anna Leonowens Gallery (2020), and Nocturne Art Festival at Night 15: Legacies (2022). Both artists are passionate about sharing their experiences and cultures with the community through their sustainable art practices.
Ayoka Junaid is a sustainable artist who uses mixed media and materials including fibre, ceramics, print, and image making to explore themes of language, relationship, and identity. Junaid's practice is heavily influenced by nature and her surroundings—materials are grown, wild harvested, or salvaged. Junaid has exhibited work in group shows and participated in residencies in Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Ontario.
Rae RezWell is a Deaf Dominican-Canadian mixed media photographer and artist. Her art focuses on mixed media, digital photography, and alternative photographic processes. She has a variety of skills that she has included and merged into her concept. She mostly expresses experiences from her childhood of being multi-racial and Deaf culture, heritage, and trauma in her artwork. The reason why it is relatable to her art and concept is that it matches her identity. She values finding art materials that can express and resonate with her feelings and perspective, seen as colours and felt with texture and heard with vague sounds and vibrations of what Rae remembers from the moment. Rae has a BFA in Photography from NSCAD University, and a Creative Photography Diploma from Humber College. Her artwork has been featured in exhibitions at Anna Leonowens Gallery (2020) and the Nocturne Art Festival at Night 15: Legacies (2022).
