In this workshop, participants will work with members of FlagSSS Day Collective to create lightweight flags to be used during QUIET PARADE, a sensory friendly parade that celebrates accessibility taking place on UTM campus the following day, September 18.
Participants will create flags that when activated will be part of a large flag sculpture inspired by the snail, a supremely slow and quiet creature. The workshop will also include a series of guided collective movement activities to prepare for the parade. Participants in the workshop are invited and encouraged to join the “slowcore flag corps,” a group of flag-bearing folks who engage in slow and gentle movements that incorporate lightweight flags during QUIET PARADE.
The Blackwood Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Innovation Complex, which includes open spaces, round sloped corners, and windows to facilitate visual communication and navigation. Accessible multi-user gendered washrooms are located at ground level. The Blackwood Gallery is accessible to people who use mobility devices, with doorways measuring over 32” wide. All entrances at ground floor level to both buildings are equipped with power-assisted doors. ASL interpretation is available upon request with one week notice; please email [email protected].
