A social movement that advocates for the needs and rights of non-resident, migrant communities. Migrant workers often face dangerous working conditions, precarious work arrangements, and inadequate health and safety oversight despite making up a crucial segment of the workforce (see Worked/Working, Migrant Choir, Stephanie Comilang, Kwentong Bayan Collective. Migrant justice workers and organizers identify their unique challenges, including overpolicing, inadequate access to healthcare and social services, and convoluted or non-existent pathways to citizenship. Migrant justice movements demand structural change through community organizing and networked, migrant-led approaches to action, recognizing how the enduring legacies of colonialism are played out through the logics of borders and nation states, and sustained by exploitative working conditions.
