Coined by sociologist Judy Singer in 1998, neurodiversity refers to the range of differences in individual brain function and behavioural traits. Neurodiversity strays from the hierarchical understanding of cognitive capacity latent in the popular autism “spectrum”; instead, it reflects a non-linear understanding of neuro-capacities (see the Neurocultures Collective in SDUK09), whose research challenges the notion of a neurotypical cinematic form).
