PAST EXHIBITIONS: 1999

Noisemakers

September 8 - October 1, 1999
Opening reception: Thursday, November 1, 5 - 9 pm

Marla Hlady: Drumming Displaced into Different Sized Jam Jars, 1999

This two-part exhibition explored noise. Usually thought of as undesirable, disruptive, or unpleasant sound, when presented on its own, especially for the purpose of listening, noise becomes an aesthetic experience in its own right. Toronto artist Daniel Olson, who has for a number of years explored the quirky nature of found noise-making toys and unorthodox instruments, presented three works involving noise-making: a new video-installation, a multi-object sculpture with video, and a performance of the "Artists' Marching Band" on opening night.
